Could my house be haunted?
Things that might indicate your house may be haunted.
- Feelings of being watched
- Odd odors, such as cigar smoke or perfume.
- Odd sounds like whispers, walking, bangs and doors closing.
- Lights that flicker, or change, example from white to orange or yellow glow.
- Temperature drop or rise by 10 to 15 degrees.
- Electronic devices acting up, turn on off for no reason.
- Seeing unexplained shadows. Seeing them in your peripheral vision.
- Missing objects
- Being touched
- Pets acting strange
- Internal alarms without and external alarm
Remember most of these things can be explained naturally, don’t jump to conclusions, look for perfectly nature causes, or hire a pro like a plumber, electrician, technician.
No one thing on its own will tell you your place is haunted, keep an eye open for a combination of these events.
What to do
- Keep a log book or diary of events. Date, time, exact location and who was involved. This will be very helpful to spot trends, such as times they occur and if 1 or 2 people are always involved. People tend to forget or jumble the details or chronological order of things over time, so write them down as soon as possible.
- Don’t get mad
- Don’t make threats
- Don’t make challenges
- Don’t engage
- Remain calm
- Don’t immediately consider smudging or clearing.
- If it persists try talking to them, be calm, respectful, explain what they are doing is upsetting and scary. To please stop.
- Last resort, call for help. Do your research make all attempts to ensure they are reputable and don’t bring people in who charge for this.
If you want to play investigator
- Research the history of the building, see if anything stands out, major event, deaths, etc.
- Get an audio recorder, turn the volume up high hit record and ask questions, give time between questions for a response. Play it back and listen carefully if you get a response, you have just captured what is called an EVP or electronic voice recording.
- Remember if you hear it directly it is known as a disembodied voice, if you didn’t hear it and only hear it later while reviewing your recordings it is known as an EVP.
- You can also set up video cameras to see if any physical activity is taking place. Please be aware of any privacy laws that might apply.
Caution: In most cases any type of investigating will normally lead to an escalation of activity.
As an investigator I have found the majority of the time it will boil down to 3 types of spirits.
- Mischievous
- Those that have a story to tell
- Those that a have secret to hide
